Small Yakisugi Wooden Candle Holders

How It's Made

These decorative hand turned candle holders are crafted from fallen cedar trees sourced in the Hudson Valley, New York. Made in small batches, these candle holders are each slightly unique, formed around the natural characteristics of the tree. The candle holders are then burnt in the Japanese style of yakisugi, also known as shou sugi ban, creating the black patina and preserving the wood from decay.

Care & Use

Our preferred method of dusting is to use a tack cloth or feather duster. While the surface isn't exceptionally delicate, fibers can occasionally catch on the irregularities found on the object's surface. For non-food safe objects, applying a furniture polish of your choice will maintain the object's original sheen. For food safe pieces, a beeswax and oil mixture found online or at your local hardware store is ideal for replenishing the surface. When washing is required, use a gentle cleanser and a soft touch while avoiding abrasives. Similarly to how one would maintain a butcher block or wood cutting board: wash gently, do not soak and apply a food safe oil/wax commensurate with your usage. Enjoy!
